NNFA Northwest Region
Seminar for Health Practitioners, Students and Journalists Offered at Natural Products Northwest 2000 Natural Products Northwest 2000 will feature a five-hour presentation on the natural products industry during the trade show’s Education Day on September 8, 2000. This comprehensive seminar is designed to help health practitioners, students, journalists, and new retail employees better understand the industry and work together more effectively. Kathy Constantine, executive director of the National Nutritional Foods Association Northwest Region, said, "Affiliations between professionals and retailers often provide a competitive advantage for both parties while helping consumers achieve optimal health. Many practitioners want to work more closely with local retailers, but lack the knowledge of how to develop effective relationships. This class will also help students focus their professional goals." The seminar will be led by Craig Winters, who has taught an expanded version of this popular class for four years at Bastyr University in Seattle. He will cover a wide variety of information about the natural products industry including history, regulatory affairs, dietary supplements, herbs, nutrition, marketing and distribution, management, sales, human relations, and the Internet. "Craig Winters is the ideal leader for this class," Constantine said. "His high-energy, entertaining teach style complements his deep understanding of the industry based on over twenty years of experience." Industry associates and practitioners are also welcomed to the fourth year of the Northwest Nutrition Institute (NNI). Taught by Dr. S.A. Decker Weiss, a naturopath and cardiologist, the four-hour class held on September 7 covers the cardiovascular system. NNI was developed by NNFA Northwest’s Healthcare Advisory Committee to help promote a more comprehensive and scientific approach to health by the region’s retail and associate members. Complete information on the conference program at Natural Products Northwest 2000 is available here. The conference will be held at the Hyatt Regency Bellevue and the trade show exhibits will be at the nearby Meydenbauer Center.
